It’s been a busy week with Everton and transfer stories, with players linked with moves to and from Merseyside, star men hinting deals could happen, and outcasted flops reportedly discussing potential new destinations.
But unlike David Neres, Hakim Ziyech, Che Adams and Benito Raman, the latest report to get the Goodison Park faithful chatting is to do with a potential departure, like Nikola Vlasic and Oumar Niasse.
The Evening Standard reported on Thursday that Manchester United have now identified former Paris Saint-Germain target Idrissa Gana Gueye as a potential replacement for Ander Herrera, who is bound for the French capital.
The Spaniard is set to move to the Ligue 1 giants in the summer once his contract at Old Trafford expires, where he will reportedly earn a whopping £200,000-a-week.
Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been keen to retain the 2014 signing for his first full campaign in charge, having re-introduced the central midfielder to the first-team following Jose Mourinho’s sacking, but the Old Trafford outfit refused to match the wage on offer across the channel.
Now, it is said that they will turn their attention just over 30 miles to the West and try to tempt us into selling them Gueye, having rebuffed PSG’s advances in the winter.
Staggeringly, the money the Evening Standard believe they will stake to land our 5 ft 7 midfield anchor is not even £30million, despite Thomas Tuchel’s best advances being waved away amid reports of offers close to £22m.
The reason why their offer is expected to be so low is that United see Gueye as a ‘cheaper option’ to the likes of West Ham’s Declan Rice and Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez – the Spaniard is valued by TransferMarkt at £81m, while reports for Rice suggest a fee between £40m and £50m is on the cards.
Naturally, when word was shared that Manchester United are after Gueye, a lot of Everton fans reacted…
They paid 50m odd for fred & he’s not fit to lace gana boots . 30m would be a down payment?Yeah
