Dominic Calvert-Lewin may be coming into his own as our leading man, with great hold up play and an aerial threat, but the 22-year-old is rarely able to find the back of the net.
As such, reports linking us with strikers refuse to go away, as fans crave that 20-goal a season ace who will take us to a higher level before we leave Goodison Park.
Seemingly one name that has taken and retained Marcel Brands’ intrigue is Birmingham City’s wonder man Che Adams, with Football Insider claiming our Director of Football sees the forward as a ‘potential star in the making’.
They also suggest our recruitment team, headed by Brands, are keen to bolster Marco Silva’s strike force for next season, knowing that we will need a proven finisher if we are to challenge the top six.
Adams is certainly that in England’s second-tier competition, having scored 22 goals in 40 Championship outings this term, including the match winner against Leeds at the weekend.
This is not the first time we have been linked with the 22-year-old, either, with previous reports suggesting Birmingham will look to cash-in at £20million, amid interest from Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United, Celtic, Bournemouth and us.
Later reports then suggested the price in question had come down to £15million, in order to help appease the EFL’s profitability and sustainability regulations, which ultimately lead the governing body to award a nine-point deduction.
Which figure the St Andrew’s natives will now be hoping for remains to be seen, but Adams’ contract at Birmingham does not expire until 2022, and his goal contribution will be hard for them to replace – his 39% contribution is a league high.
