Everton have confirmed that Morgan Scheiderlin has left the club and joined OGC Nice for an undisclosed fee. The 30-year-old spent three years at Goodison Park and made 88 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and making two assists.

Schneiderlin’s departure has been on the cards for a long time, as Carlo Ancelotti wants to replace underperforming players from previous regimes. Nice’s president admitted an interest in the French international last week and a medical was undertaken days later.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Everton signed Schneiderlin from Manchester United in January 2017, but he never lived up his billing on Merseyside. The defensive-midfielder struggled for consistency and was frequently criticised by supporters on social media this season.

Ancelotti has Andre Gomes, Jean-Philippe Gbamin (when fit), Fabian Delph, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies to call upon in midfield, so Schneiderlin won’t be missed. He spent a lot of the campaign injured, making only 18/35 appearances this season, so it made sense to cash in.

Everton have been linked with Adrien Rabiot, Allan, Angelo Fulgini, Franck Kessie, Morgan Sanson, Mohammed Kudus, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Davide Frattesi, Matias Vecino, John McGinn and Idrissa Gueye this summer too, so the Toffees will have a replacement lined up next season.
