Team News: Everton without five players ahead of Liverpool clash, 26 y/o returns from injury

|

Everton will be without five players ahead of Sunday’s Merseyside derby with Liverpool – Yerry Mina (thigh), Jean-Philippe Gbamin (achilles), Fabian Delph (muscle), Theo Walcott (stomach) and Cenk Tosun (knee). Andre Gomes has returned from injury, however, so he’ll be available for selection.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Mina had a quad muscle problem and won’t recover in time to face Liverpool. Gbamin has been ruled out for the rest of the year with an achilles injury. He’s undergone surgery and is unlikely to return until 2021.

Delph has suffered a groin injury, hamstring injury and had a bout of sickness this season, but he’s out of action with another muscle problem. It remains to be seen when he’ll return. Walcott underwent abdominal surgery last week and won’t return to training until mid-July.

Tosun suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury while on loan at Crystal Palace in March and is still recovering from surgery. He may not return before the revised season finishes. Gomes has brushed off a knock and trained all week ahead of the Liverpool clash, so the 26-year-old could start on Sunday.

Everton are 12th in the Premier League with 37 points from 29 games. The Toffees have suffered two defeats and a draw from their last three. Liverpool, however, are top of the table with 82 points and boast 27 wins from 29 games.
