Carlo Ancelotti admitted Everton “have some problems” with Yerry Mina, so the 25-year-old “will not be able to play against Liverpool” on Sunday evening.
Mina has been struggling with a quad muscle injury and hasn’t recovered in time to make the squad, so Mason Holgate and Michael Keane could start at centre-back. Seamus Coleman and Cuco Martina are also makeshift options.
Mina has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and making one assist. The Colombian international is a regular under Ancelotti when fit, but his return may not come until Everton’s trip to face Norwich City on Wednesday.
Everton are currently 12th in the Premier League table with 37 points from 29 games this season, coming off the back of two defeats and a draw from their last three. Liverpool sit at the summit with 82 points from a possible 87, having won 27 of 29 games.
Everton haven’t won a Merseyside derby since 2010, losing 11 and drawing 10 of the 21 games that followed. A win on Sunday could see the Toffees overtake Burnley and Crystal Palace while drawing level with Arsenal in the table if results go their way.
