Everton could be without defender against Liverpool, 25 y/o ‘had check on Wednesday’

Everton could be without Yerry Mina against Liverpool on Sunday as he’s still recovering from a quad muscle injury. Carlo Ancelotti gave an update on Mina earlier in the week, suggesting the 25-year-old would ‘have a check on Wednesday’ before a decision is made on his availabity.

Without Mina, Everton will be left with Mason Holgate and Michael Keane at centre-back for their Merseyside derby, two players who conceded five goals in their last two games together.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Ancelotti said to Everton’s official website: “We are looking to recover Yerry Mina and Fabian Delph. Mina has a check on Wednesday, so we will see with him (if he is ready to face Liverpool).”

The Colombian international has made 29/34 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and making one assist. Mina had injury woes last season, but’s he’s only missed one game across the board this time round and has been an unused substitute on four occassions.

Ahead of the meeting with Liverpool, Everton are currently 12th in the Premier League with 37 points from 29 games. The Toffees have conceded 46 goals this season, more than 14 other top-flight clubs, so Mina’s absence would only make their job harder on Sunday.

Everton have conceded 1.58 goals per game on average while Liverpool score 2.27 goals per game.
