Sam Allardyce’s Everton reign came to an end over the summer and credited with tightening the group up defensively after Ronald Koeman’s ill-fated spell – followed by David Unsworth’s caretaker charge for eight games – he left us with mixed reviews.

Some thought he was harshly treated (he certainly did), others believed there was too much on hype on what he had actually achieved given the performances we were putting in under his charge.

The statistics say 26 games, ten wins, nine draws, seven losses and a win % of 38.5 for our one game former England manager.

I doubt this piece will wildly change anyone’s minds, despite the camp they are in when it comes to Big Sam, but I found it interesting.

ESPN have created a ‘luck index’ based on various assumptions and algorythms and suffice to say, numbers aren’t my friend, many would say words aren’t either – but you can read the full details on the link.

Suffice to say they claim loveable Liverpool were the most unlikely side in the season missing out on 12 points – presumably a readjustment for a lack of concussion?

Everton thought got lucky and under their methodology should’ve finished two places lower than we did, with five fewer points.

What that means in the grand scheme of things is for each reader to decide based on their own outlook. I’m only the messenger because it arrived in my inbox the other day.
