Various board members of Premier League clubs have said that Everton were attempting to complete deals during the January transfer window without actually having the funds to do so, according to today’s reports on yesterday’s deadline day disaster.

Everton confirmed the appointment of Sean Dyche as their new manager after the sacking of Frank Lampard, with his side lift lingering deep in the relegation zone with less than half the season to play.

It was widely believed that Everton’s transfer window would be a busy one, with at least 2 or 3 incomings needed in order to bolster Dyche’s squad for their upcoming relegation fight.

However, when the window slammed shut last night, the toffees had failed to sign a single player, with a deal sheet not handed to the Premier League for a late signing.

Although the club had a whole month to sign players and a month and a half to scout players during the World Cup, they still didn’t manage to get a single deal over the line.

According to Alex Crook on TalkSport

“I have spoken to a lot of board members from various Premier League clubs.”

“Everton have been at the table for a lot of deals and have been a hinderance to clubs when trying to sign players.”

“Because the feeling amongst other clubs is that Everton are offering to buy players but they dont have the funds to see those deals through”

Everton now have 18 games to save their Premier League status for another season but have a weaker squad than the one that they entered the January window with.

Anthony Gordon’s departure to Newcastle United leaves Sean Dyche with only Demarai Gray, Dwight McNeil and an injury-stricken Andros Townsend in the wide positions and a struggling Neal Maupay, Dominic Calvert-Lewin who struggles to keep fit and Ellis Simms with only 3 competitive appearances for Everton.

Sean Dyche will need to perform some sort of miracle if Everton are to avoid relegation this season.
