Almost since the opening weeks of the 2020-21 Premier League season, it’s been clear that Everton’s main summer priority would a be right-back, making persistent recent links to Norwich City’s Max Aarons understandable.

While the position’s longstanding incumbent Seamus Coleman finished the season strongly, he is past his peak and can no longer be depended on to stay fit throughout the course of the campaign.

Elsewhere, Mason Holgate did a decent job in the position at times, although had all the rough edges of a centre-back playing out of position. Jonjoe Kenny started the season as another option, but was shipped out to Celtic on loan in January and is set to be sold this summer on a permanent basis.

Aarons had been tipped by reliable sources to be the man that Everton would look to come in and fill the position on a long-term basis, although now it would appear the deal is unlikely to happen.

When asked about the potential transfer on Twitter, the well-regarded Guardian and Sky Sport Italia correspondent Fabrizio Romano said there is “no chance” of it happening now.

That’ll be a blow for Evertonians, as there would’ve been a hope that the club could box off one of the glaring holes in the squad quickly with an exciting player. Having watched Ben Godfrey thrive after making the move from Carrow Road, in theory Aarons could’ve started on a similarly exciting path.

As of yet, it’s unclear which way Everton will turn next in their search for a new right-back this summer, with no reputable reports surfacing.

Of course, it’s still early in the off-season and the transfer market hasn’t officially opened for business yet. But after a torrid end to the campaign and glaring weaknesses opening up across the squad, some prompt purchases in key areas feel vital if Everton are to start next season strongly.

    just go for emerson
    donnarumma on free transfer.
countinho ,either ings or correa as secondary striker
    demiral as centre back,guedes,riqui puig,ruben kazan,josep brekalo
and a perfect midfielder to move the ball fast with attacking and defending capabilities.
we need a natural finisher who can rely on his own and finish on his own.
