With Financial Fair Play regulations to adhere to and plenty of holes in their squad, it’s easy to see why Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes may appeal to Everton this summer.

According to Calciomercato (h/t Sport Witness), with the La Liga side a little strapped for cash going into this transfer window, they would potentially be willing to part ways with the former Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica forward for a meagre €15 million.

Valencia are said to be “demanding” Guedes’ exit to ease their financial concerns. It had been reported earlier this week that Los Che wanted a fee of €25 million before cashing in on Portugal international.

Early in his career, Guedes was rated as one of the top prospects in Europe. After moving to PSG from Benfica he toiled and although there were some signs of him reigniting his career at the Mestalla, last term was a challenging one for him, netting just five goals.

Everton do need someone in Guedes’ mode. At his best he offers a direct thrust in the final third, able to take opponents on and shoot for distance.

Although the Toffees do need to get away from signing players who have been at elite clubs and not quite lived up to expectations, Guedes would be an intriguing option.

There was a heavy burden on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison last term from a goalscoring point of view, so much so that it was detrimental to the latter.

As things stand, there isn’t much support for the pair either. Josh King’s deal won’t be renewed after he failed to make an impression in 2021, while Moise Kean is expected to join PSG on a permanent deal after a successful loan spell.

Given his inconsistency, Guedes would represent something of a risk. However, if he was available for the cut-price mentioned, then it’s easy to see the Toffees taking a closer look at him.
