Report: Everton may have to pay £53.1m and £2.86m in wages to sign Barcelona man

Despite having Jordan Pickford as their No.1 shot-stopper, recently signing Jonas Lössl as backup to the England international and having Joao Virginia waiting in the wings, Everton appear to be on the hunt for a new goalkeeper and may have to pay a premium to bring him to Goodison Park.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Sport Witness), Everton are interested in Jasper Cillessen and could make a move for the Barcelona goalkeeper this summer. The 30-year-old joined Barca from Ajax in 2016 and has gone on to make 32 appearances in all competitions, conceding 25 goals and keeping 14 clean sheets.

Cillessen has struggled for playing time at the Camp Nou due to Marc-Andre ter Stegen being first-choice between the sticks – something Everton could capitalise on in negotiations. Unfortunately, Barcelona are requesting £53.1m for the £55k-per-week goalkeeper which is very steep considering he’s backup.

It’s hard to see Everton meeting that lofty asking price for another goalkeeper while Pickford remains at Goodison Park, however. The Toffees have a lot of positions that need strengthening but bolstering their shot-stoppers wasn’t high on the list of priorities. Between Pickford, Lössl and Virginia, Everton should have enough quality for next season.
