Players Everton nearly signed – Rejected for QPR

|

Continuing to look at players that nearly signed we look at who David Moyes’ first choice was in January 2012.

Kostas Manolas was nearly singed in January 2012, but the Greek defender was not Moyes’ first choice, his first choice was in Manchester, at Manchester City.

Nedum Onuoha was David Moyes’ first choice that January transfer window. After falling out with Roberto Mancini, Onuoha’s time at Manchester City was coming to an end and Moyes wanted to keep the England youth international in the North West.

Moyes wanted to bring the talented defender to Merseyside as he could play both at centre-back and right-back and with the lure of European football Moyes thought he had his man, that was until QPR came in and offered more money and the chance to play/live in London. (More players did the same)

Onuoha eventually joined QPR where he spent 6 seasons becoming club captain within a few seasons before he left for life in the MLS with Salt Lake City.

Do you think Onuoha would have been a good signing under David Moyes? He did have an eye for players as I can not think of many signings he got wrong, unlike our transfer dealings in recent years.
