After Ajax star, Mohammed Kudus confirmed he held talks with Frank Lampard before his move to Everton collapsed due to Manchester United signing Anthony from Ajax, we look at some more players that nearly signed the dotted line for Everton.
To start us off in the list is “The Greek God” Konstantinos “Kostas” Manolas
In January 2012, Moyes met 20-year-old Manolas’ representatives to try to set up a £1 million deal with AEK Athens, saying.
“He’s a young boy we have looked at for a while, and we know quite a lot about him, we could do with a centre-back, although ideally someone who could go straight into the team, and he couldn’t at the moment. But he’s got potential, his representatives have been in, and we have spoken to the club.” – Guardian
Everything was agreed for the youngster to swap Athens for Merseyside, but the defender later changed his mind saying he did not want to leave his club with only one other senior centre-back at the time.
Six years later and Manolas was part of one of the greatest Champions League comebacks when he scored the decisive goal that saw AS Roma come from behind to defeat Barcelona. Listen below to Peter Dury
