It was a bit of a long-winded and tense wait but eventually, it became clear that we’d be keeping Ademola Lookman last week.
The winger was excellent at Charlton back when he was there and that prompted us to sign him.
However, a loan move to Leipzig potentially was going to pave the way for a permanent deal there – something that Ralf Ragnick wanted.
We kept the German side at arm’s length, though, and it now appears that their manager is regretting getting involved with us over the summer.
As quoted by RB Live, he said:
“With Keita and Lookman, we had two top performers here.
“It is all the more important that the others [players] are in the best shape. Unfortunately, they are not there yet at the moment.”
Perhaps, then, that’ll teach him that we’re not going to be pushed around by any club – especially some upstart side from Germany that comes nowhere near to us in size.
We’ve kept Lookman at the club, then, and now we’ll be looking to see him come into the side more and more over the coming weeks and months.
