Opinion: AC Milan defender won’t join Everton in January, here’s why

|

Everton continue to be linked with a move for Ricardo Rodriguez by Corriere dello Sport, but there’s little chance of a deal going through in January.

The Toffees don’t need a left-back while Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines are at Goodison Park, nor would they look to strengthen their side with an outcast of the Rossoneri side who has fallen down the pecking order.

If Everton do any business in the winter transfer window, it’s far more likely they will sign a central defender and a potential replacement for the injured Andre Gomes. One position they don’t need to bolster is at fullback.

Rodriguez has spent two years in Milan, making 92 appearances in all competitions, but he finds himself on the periphery this season. The Swiss international hasn’t featured in Serie A since September, spending the last two months as an unused substitute, so why would Everton want him?

Would Ricardo Rodriguez be a good signing for Everton?

Yes

No

He has 18 months remaining on his contract but is likely to leave sooner given his lack of a role under Stefano Pioli, but it’s unlikely he’s on Marcel Brands’ radar. It would make far more sense if Everton were lining up a move for a hot prospect in defence rather than the 27-year-old.
