Defender ‘always wants to play’ which is why Everton move in January makes no sense

|

Everton were recently linked with a move for Ricardo Rodriguez, but Vital Everton explained why such a deal made little sense for both parties. The 27-year-old has now spoken out about potentially leaving AC Milan which further highlights why he wouldn’t want to join the Toffees.

Rodriguez said in an interview with AZ: “I cannot tell you how my career will progress. But I can say that I am a player who always wants to play.” AZ believe the Swiss international could seek a move away from Milan in January, but it won’t be Everton that he’ll join.

He made four Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri before being dropped in late-September and has since been an unused substitute for Milan’s last three games. Rodriguez finds himself behind Theo Hernandez (four appearances, one goal, one assist) in the pecking order and clearly isn’t happy being on the periphery.

Lucas Digne has been a regular under Marco Silva while Leighton Baines provides cover, so the last position Everton need to strengthen is at left-back. Rodriguez won’t want to sit on the bench at Goodison Park, nor do the Toffees need added competition.

It’s highly unlikely the Swiss fullback will join Everton in January as a result.
