Official: Everton confirm 20 y/o has been ‘offered new deal’

|

Everton have confirmed in their 2019/20 retained list that Con Ouzounidis has been ‘offered a new deal. The 20-year-old had an uncertain future this summer, as he hadn’t made a first-team appearance and was out of contract at the end of June. Everton feel Ouzounidis is worth keeping, however, so they’ll now wait and see if he agrees to their terms.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

The centre-back has gone on to make 16 appearances for the U18s and 22 appearances for the U23s. He’s currently behind Yerry Mina, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate in the first-team pecking order and has seen Lewis Gibson overtake him too.

With Everton loaning out Matthew Pennington while releasing Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka last summer, there was a void to fill at centre-back this season. Ouzounidis clearly didn’t do enough to warrant selection, however, so he’s spent the campaign in the reserves.

Everton have been linked with a number of centre-backs this summer too – Mohammed Salisu, Wesley Fofana, Thiago Silva, Jean-Clair Todibo, Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva, Gabriel Magalhaes, Marash Kumbulla, Christian Luyindama, Issa Diop and Tosin Adarabioyo – so it remains to be seen if Ouzounidis will get opportunities next season.
