Official: Everton confirm 21 y/o has been ‘offered new deal’

|

Everton have confirmed in their 2019/20 retained list that Nathangelo Markelo has been offered a new deal. The 21-year-old had an uncertain future at Goodison Park as he’d struggled for playing time and was coming to the end of his contract. Everton have opted to retain his services, however, so they’ll be hoping he puts pen to paper on an extension.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Markelo joined Everton from Volendam in 2017 and has gone on to make 59 appearances for the U23s, scoring two goals and making four assists. He’s also represented the Netherlands national team at U18 (five caps), U19 (one cap), U20 (six caps) and U21 (two caps) level.

Markelo didn’t have a chance of featuring at right-back with Seamus Coleman, Jonjoe Kenny and Djibril Sidibe ahead in the pecking order. He didn’t stand a chance of featuring in midfield with Andre Gomes, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Fabian Delph, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies in his way either.

Everton clearly feel the 21-year-old has potential, but it remains to be seen whether they’ll loan him out or give him first-team opportunities next season. There’s a lot of competition at senior level, so will he feature much under Carlo Ancelotti?
