Explained: Clubs will have to pay £20m and £3.12m in wages to sign Everton man

Cenk Tosun is expected to leave Everton this summer after falling down the pecking order in the last 12 months. The 28-year-old has made just 13 Premier League appearances for Everton since February 2019, so he joined Crystal Palace on loan last month to get more first-team football.

With Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean for competition, Tosun has found himself on the periphery at Goodison Park. The Turkish international has not been in good form either, scoring only two goals since October 2018, so it’s easy to see why so Marco Silva, Duncan Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti have overlooked him.

Everton paid £27m to sign Tosun back in 2018 and are expected to take a small hit on his sale due to his dwindling value, but Phil Kirkbride of the Liverpool Echo says the Blues are still looking for £20m. The £60k-per-week centre-forward still has two-and-a-half years on his deal, so Everton aren’t in a desperate position.

Since joining from Besiktas two years ago, Tosun has made 51 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals. Whether Everton make back the majority of money spent remains to be seen.
