Explained: 3 appearances in 3 months, 4 injuries in 2019/20 – Tough season for Everton loanee

Nathan Broadhead joined Burton Albion on a season-long loan in August and has been a regular under Nigel Clough, but the 21-year-old has seen his playing time decimated by a number of injuries.

Broadhead has made 19 appearances in all competitions for the Brewers, scoring and creating five goals this season, but he’s only played in three games since November 2019.

The winger suffered a hip injury in Albion’s 4-2 win over Oxford United (August 20) and missed two games, picked up a hamstring injury in their 1-0 defeat to Peterborough United (November 23), suffered a setback with his hamstring in the 2-0 defeat to Lincoln City (December 7) and was forced to return to Everton for treatment after playing in Albion’s 1-0 win over MK Dons.

Broadhead returned earlier this month and started in the Brewers’ 2-2 draw with Oxford United (February 11). The 21-year-old was brought off after the hour mark and will be managed carefully by Clough to ensure he doesn’t suffer a setback.

It’s been a season of contrasting fortunes but Broadhead will hope to end it on a strong note by keeping his place for the remainder of the campaign.
