Everton confirmed that Theo Walcott will miss the Toffees’ meeting with Liverpool after ‘undergoing surgery’. The 31-year-old developed symptoms in his abdominal that require him to go under the knife and should return to training in ‘four weeks’.
Walcott had surgery on Monday evening after issues arose in training and is doing his rehabilitation with the medical staff. Everton are due to face Liverpool on June 21, so there’s no chance the injured wide-man will be available in time. He might be absent for most of the remaining games.
Walcott has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal and making three assists. He’s been an unused substitute twice and didn’t make the matchday squad on six occasions. With the England international in the last year of his deal at Goodison Park, however, his future may be uncertain.
Carlo Ancelotti was reportedly considering selling Walcott after his disappointing campaign, but it’s hard to see many clubs clamouring for his signature. The 31-year-old has a market value of £10.8m and earns £5.2m-a-year/£100k-a-week. Walcott has had a hand in only four goals in 12 months, so he may not get a lot of interest.
