Everton lose race for yet another potential signing

|

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of Everton target and former West Ham striker, Andre Ayew, with the 33-year-old adding to the list of numerous Everton targets that the toffees failed to sign during the January window.

There was a small level of optimism around Everton heading into the transfer window, seeing as their league position was and is far from where it should be, that they could bring in a few players to bolster their squad.

However, with the transfer window now closed, Everton’s only massive piece of business was completing the sale of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United for a rumoured fee of around £45 million

The blues were reportedly interested in several players during the window, with the likes of Kamaldeen Sulemana, Paul Onuachu and Ismaila Sarr being heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park. However, not a single deal managed to materialise to bring a player to Everton.

Although no player was signed during the January window, Everton were even reportedly scouring the free agent market to sort a potential deal, with the club holding talks to bring in former West Ham striker, Andre Ayew. However, as with all of the rest of their deals, they have missed out on the signing of the 33-year-old.

Fellow Premier League side, Nottingham Forest confirmed the signing of Andre Ayew on a free transfer today, adding to the long list of players to be linked with a move to Everton but not to complete it.

Nottingham Forest could, definitely, be seen as the favourites in the race with Everton to sign the Ghanaian, with Forest manager Steve Cooper working with Ayew during his time at Swansea City in the Championship.

However, seeing how desperate the toffees currently are for attacking reinforcements, it is quite surprising that Everton did not go all out to complete any potential deal.
