Everton have confirmed in their 2019/20 retained list that Djibril Sidibe ‘has signed’ a contract extension until the end of the revised season. The 27-year-old’s loan deal was due to expire at the end of June, but he can now see out the rest of the campaign at Goodison Park and help his side finish as high as possible.

Everton said on their official website: ‘Everton can confirm (… ) Djibril Sidibe has signed an extension to his loan deal from Monaco to remain with the Club until the end of the season.’

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Sidibe joined the Toffees on a season-long loan from AS Monaco and has gone on to make 24 appearances in all competitions with five assists. The French international has been a regular at right-back and can turn his move permanent for €15m this summer, but it remains to be seen if Everton will match his release clause. Marcel Brands and Carlo Ancelotti aren’t convinced.

The Everton manager could have Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny at his disposal next season, but he may need Sidibe or a replacement right-back if Kenny doesn’t return – the 23-year-old is keen on extending his loan stint at Schalke 04.

Should Kenny leave, Everton may have to turn their attentions elsewhere. They’ve been linked with Emerson, Jesus Corona, Santiago Arias, Ola Aina and Bouna Sarr, so there are alternatives to the 27-year-old.
