The rhyme goes. Remember, remember, the fifth of November. Well for us Evertonians, this is one we will want to forget and quickly.

A rocket from Youri Tielemans and a goal late on from Harvey Barnes were enough for Leicester as they left with all three points in a game that they controlled from start to finish.

Leicester started the game fast and almost took the lead within a minute but James Maddison put his effort wide of the post, next it was Patson Daka who went close for the visitors but Jordan Pickford was equal to the tame effort.

Two chances in the opening five minutes but it was Everton who should have taken the lead. Gana Gueye pressed and won the ball back 20 yards from the Leicester goal, he played it to Dominic Calvert-Lewin who played a neat ball through to Alex Iwobi, you would be forgiven if you expected the ball to nestle into the back of the net, but Iwobi put his effort millimetres wide.

James Maddison who was excellent throughout the entire game set up the opener on the stroke of half-time. His cutback was controlled on the thigh by Tielemans, and he unleashed a spectacular half-volley into the top corner from the edge of the box. You could only stand and applaud the goal it was that good.

The second half was much like the first with Leicester controlling the game but it was Everton again who had the best chance to level the game. Alex Iwobi played an inch-perfect ball through the Leicester defence for Calvert-Lewin one on one with Danny Ward in the Leicester goal. All he had to do was lift the ball over the keeper and it was level, he opted for a shot along the floor and it was blocked by Ward much to the frustration of every Everton fan watching.

Things got worse for Everton as Calvert-Lewin was forced off with a suspected hamstring injury in the 70th minute and with Gana Gueye and Onana who both went off with injuries. It was obvious, it was going to be one of those nights.

Like most games this season, Everton threw players forward and it was only a matter of time before they got caught out on the counterattack again. Abdoulaye Doucoure who replaced Onana gave the ball away extremely poorly in the Leicester half, they broke with pace before Barnes rifled the ball past Pickford with his left foot in the closing stages.

Next up is Bournemouth away in the league cup and the league before the World Cup break which might be a blessing in disguise for Frank Lampard and his side. This week in training they need to focus on finishing and picking better passes in the final third because what we have seen over the past two weeks is not good enough.
