Everton striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin made his international debut with England in October 2020, scoring in a 3-0 win over Wales at Wembley.

Since making his debut, he has appeared 11 times for the 3 lions, scoring 4 goals in the process.

England manager, Gareth Southgate included the striker in his UEFA European Championship squad in 2021, narrowly missing out on a winners medal, losing in the final to Italy on penalties.

Southgate has always spoken highly of the Everton man and looked to be one of the first names on the squad list for England before his injuries put him out of action for most of last season.

Calvert-Lewin only made his first start to the season against Newcastle in late October of this year, but a goal and an all-round solid performance in his side’s win over Crystal Palace left some thinking that he was still in with a chance of making the England squad for the World Cup.

However, after two goalless performances and a worrying injury, he seems to be back where he left off.

“Well, he’s not going. It was a long shot to start with.”

“Unfortunately, he’s just not played enough football, picking up these injuries.”

“He needs a stretch of games where he can play a certain amount of minutes. They are going to have to manage him a bit better.”

Campbell was then asked if the World Cup could be good for him (Calvert-Lewin) and for Everton:

“Yes, you could say that. The World Cup will allow him (Calvert-Lewin) to get a lot of training in and then make an assault around Christmas time.”

“But again, they are going to have to keep him ticking over, organise some behind closed doors games.”

With the World Cup only a couple of weeks away, Everton will travel to Sydney to play Celtic and Western Sydney Wanderers in the Sydney Super Cup.

If Dominic Calvert-Lewin fails to make the England squad, which is looking more than likely, he will get some much-needed minutes and training with Lampard and his team in Australia.
