For large periods of Everton’s clash with Newcastle United on Saturday, it looked like manager Marco Silva would have good reasons for cheer given our recent woeful form and performances.

Making the trip to St James’ Park for the game, it was a bright start from Everton who largely looked up for the game and like the players were out to make a point. This was rewarded as Dominic Calvert-Lewin opened the scoring 18 minutes into the game and record signing Richarlison added a second just after the hour half mark.

Second half it went catastrophically wrong and the hosts scored three times to take the win and fray tempers at Goodison Park even further.

Statistics website Whoscored summed up the game in their player ratings as we only had three players get into seven-plus scores.

With Calvert-Lewin taking the Man of the Match rating, he was followed by Richarlison (7.41), Lucas Digne (7.08), Idrissa Gueye (6.84) and Kurt Zouma (6.72).

Something has to give soon doesn’t it.
