Everton have confirmed that striker Victor Anichebe has signed for West Brom, with a fee that could potentially rise to 6mil. The Nigerian, who began the season as 3rd choice striker behind Nikica Jelavic and Arouna Kone, will be hoping he can find more first team football under Steve Clarke at West Brom.

The 25yr old Everton academy graduate made his Everton debut in 2006 in a FA Cup tie against Chelsea at the age of 17 . However, his breakthrough in the Everton side came after a largely successful European campaign in 2007-08 season, where he finished the clubs top scorer as Everton made the last 16 of the UEFA Cup. However, after that, Anichebe was plagued by inconsistency and injuries, including a horrific broken leg which sidelined him for over a year. After his return, the Nigerian was largely inconsistent often frustrating Everton fans. However, many Everton fan would say that he had another break out year last season and began showing glimpses of why Moyes persisted with Anichebe. The striker made 32 appearances for Everton last season, scoring 8 goals in the process, his best return in the league in his career.

In total, Anichebe made 131 appearances for the Toffees, scoring 18 times, and also representing Nigeria at international level 11 times. It is always sad to see a player that came through the academy at Everton, however, I am sure he will leave with best wishes and hopefully can continue his development at West Brom.
