Everton have confirmed that they have signed Wigan midfielder James McCarthy for around 13mil on a long term deal. The signing will see the midfielder reunite with Roberto Martinez, after they had worked together at Wigan. McCarthy became the fourth player who had played for Wigan under Martinez to sign for Everton.

The move does not really come as a surprise, as many had anticipated that once the Fellaini to United deal was agreed, Martinez, who has admitted to being a fan of the 22yr old, would view James McCarthy as a replacement for the Belgian. McCarthy was signed from Scottish side Hamilton in 2009 for a 1.2mil fee has been a big success for Wigan making 120 appearances for the club and scoring 7 goals, including being a vital cog for the teams FA Cup triumph last season.

McCarthy will hopefully solve one of Everton’s problems, which is, to start the season, we do not have a midfielder who is really comfortable on the ball and has the ability to pick out a pass, and as a result, Everton’s attack has been painfully slow and laboured.

Welcome to the club James McCarthy, here’s hoping to a success stay.
