Everton have confirmed that Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku and Man City’s Gareth Barry have joined the club on a season long loan moves. Both deals were concluded in the final moments of a frantic deadline day for Everton.

Romelu Lukaku, 20, spent last season on loan at West Brom, where he was a massive success. The Belgian finished the 6th top scorer in the league scoring 17 goals from 20 starts as he helped West Brom to an impressive top half finish. Due to that form, I think it came as a big surprise that Chelsea were once again willing to loan the young striker this season, but Everton fans will be overjoyed that they may finally have a striker that can score 15+ goals for them this season. Romelu Lukaku, despite being only 20, is a complete striker. Lukaku has the physical presence, the pace, the technique and the eye for goal to be a big success in this league in the future, and it is certainly a deal that has Everton fans excited.

However, Everton fans will have to wait for over 3wks to see the new man in action due to the international break and then facing Chelsea the following weekend in a fixture which Lukaku will be ineligible to play in.

Gareth Barry was a move that was rumoured for a couple days and after some negotiations in regards to his wages, also completed the loan move to Everton from Man City. Barry will provide some cover in midfield, as Everton are extremely thin in that position. The 32 year old, who joined Man City in 2009, had become surplus to requirements under new manager Manuel Pellegrini, and has joined Everton in the hunt for more first team football. The underrated midfielder made 133 appearances for Man City, including being a key part in the side that won the League title in 2011-12. Barry could potentially make his debut in a fortnight’s time against Chelsea at Goodison.
