“We Were In Command Of The Match” – Silva Finally Has Everton Delight As Cardiff Are Put To The Sword

|

Earlier this evening Everton manager Marco Silva took his first team squad to Wales for what was going to be a tough clash against battling Cardiff City.

Neil Warnock’s side do exactly what they say on the tin and on home soil, the Cardiff City Stadium, Everton needed to show significant improvement given our run of four defeats in the last five games and we had to match their work rate and do the ugly side of the game so the quality we do know we have, could come to the fore.

Thankfully for us the players stepped up, Gylfi Sigurdsson in particular who helped himself to a brace on the night, scoring in the 41st and 66th minute of the game to give us a pretty comfortable 2-0 advantage to hold onto as the game came to an end.

Given our domination of the tie, it was the least we deserved and although we only testing their goalkeeper twice following the goals, they failed to get a shot on target. Dominic Calvert-Lewin made it 3-0 three minutes into stoppage time as we ended three successive defeats.

All hail the threes!

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle, Silva said of the game.

“We are happy with the win. We played with more freedom after the goal and you can see the type of football we can play. We were in command of the match. We had time to prepare which was important and we could work on what we wanted to. The most important thing for us is winning points to boost our confidence and now we have to rest and recover. We have a big test on Sunday and I know how important it is for the fans and our opponents. We knew how we lost the first game at Anfield and we can achieve victory at our own ground.”
