ESPN FC report Everton’s interest in Gylfi Sigurdsson has seen the opening gambit turned down by Swansea.

According to sources close to Swansea, an offer of £27m has been tabled for the Iceland international but Everton’s Premier League rivals don’t see this as enough to tempt them into selling Sigurdsson for a second time, having let him leave the Liberty Stadium for Tottenham in the past

Both Everton and Tottenham continue to be linked with Sigurdsson, 27, who could be tempted by the prospect of European football next season, the Toffees play in the European League whereas Spurs, of course, could offer Champions League football – previously finding his first team chances limited in London the Icelandic midfielder could go with the mantra of once bitten twice shy?

Sigurdsson, who signed a new four year deal last summer, has insisted he’s happy in Wales and would only leave Swansea if the club wanted to sell him.

£30m, £40m absolute tops would surely be enough to secure the services of Sigurdsson, who shouldn’t, with all due respect, be commanding such a fee in any case, as good as he is. But that’s football in the modern era for you.
