An overwhelming ‘good’ is the judgement on last season as focus will very shortly, if it hasn’t already; turn to Everton’s 2017-18 Premier League campaign.

I don’t know about you but I’m finding the early summer signs very positive and feel, without getting too carried away, the upcoming season can prove another success for Everton as Ronald Koeman aims to build on the foundations laid last time round, whilst really stamping his authority at Goodison Park.

Yes, in that ideal world Everton would have finished in the Premier League’s top-four and gained Champions League football.

That – a Champions League finish – was a possibility at times but in the end Everton finished way off that pace but a return to European football was secured in the Europa League – it secured Manchester United a seat at the top table and could do the same for the Toffees, so we’ll be in it to win it, albeit a top-four finish will be the first objective.

Koeman enjoyed a good first season, 82% of the voters believed this and they are spot on.

What did the poll ask?

Seventh, was that ‘Good’, ‘Bad’ or ‘Ugly’ for Everton in 2016-17

How you voted

Good 82%
Bad 12%
Ugly 6%

Ok, playing Devil’s advocate, it might have been a little better if we’d finished in the top-six and/or challenged for, preferably won, a cup competition. Yet, I will point to this again, the groundwork is very much in place for Everton to kick on from the 2016-17 season, saying it was good.

Now to look forward, what will 2017-18 bring? That’s the topic of the latest poll.
