Talks with M’Baye Niang over a proposed transfer from AC Milan to Everton have been ‘put on hold’, according to claims made by Calciomercato.com over the weekend.

Niang, who had a failed loan at Watford last season, has been informed by AC Milan he doesn’t have a future at the San Siro. Everton, reportedly agreeing a ?15m fee, aren’t seen as ‘big enough’ for him – the Frenchman has designs on joining Arsenal.

I think we know well enough these days to take most things with a pinch of salt, therefore we shouldn’t be up in arms about such speculation. As one report claims one thing another usually suggests the opposite.

Often touted as a star for the future, Niang hasn’t lived up to expectation and isn’t getting another chance in Milan. So, speaking for myself, this would be a deal Everton ought to be happy to ‘take or leave’ as he hardly ripped up too many trees at Watford.

If he would only have interest in using the Toffees as a stepping stone we’ll be better off letting him wait for that ‘bigger club’ he wants and see if Arsenal do come calling for him? Ronald Koeman will take his search, and our money, elsewhere.

As was pointed out by the Liverpool Echo, also over the weekend, this money potentially being spent on players from Burnley shouldn’t be seen as Everton lowering standards.

Michael Keane and Andre Gray were once again mentioned in connection with moves to Goodison Park, given the fact Sean Dyche has continually brought in players and helped improve them during their time at Turf Moor, both would make good additions to the Everton squad, if not starting XI.
