Saturday was another poor and frustrating day for Everton fans as we made the long trip down south to visit Southampton in the Premier League.
The hosts were definitely the better side in the opening 45 minutes, but the second half saw the deadlock broken as they took a 2-0 advantage with 25 minutes left to play. Where nine minutes of stoppage-time came from is anyone’s guess, but Gyfli Sigurdsson did give us some late hope of a fightback as he found the net in minute 91, but despite pressure, we couldn’t add that second to take a share of the spoils.
Statistics website Whoscored obviously had our goalscorer down as their Man of the Match with a player rating of 7.25 but given the overall performance, there was little for fans to shout about.
Completing the top five on the day were Kurt Zouma (7.00), Idrissa Gueye (6.92), Ademola Lookman (6.75) and Seamus Coleman (6.73).
Back to the drawing board in many ways.
