Season Preview – Holroyd

It’s that time of year again, the season is just around the corner and the blues have signed all the players they are likely to in time to face Wigan on Saturday.

Our signings so far have been far from spectacular with only Jagielka, Pienaar and Baines added to the squad, but Moyes is still looking for his ‘one big signing’.

We’ll start with Phil Jagielka our first signing of the summer, and in my opinion our worst. The best way to describe Phil is he was a versatile medium sized fishy in a tiny pond, and he is now going to become a distinctly average fish in a large pond. Although he can play in multiple positions I find it hard to believe he will be able to hold down a place in the first team.

Our second signing was the loan deal of Steven Pienaar, and if he can re-find his form from his Ajax days we have got ourselves quite a little player. Although small he is fast and skillful and will add a very different dimension to our play, and a terrific option especially in Europe. If he can link up well with Mikel Arteta we may be creating some good chances for Andy Johnson up top.

The third man in was Leighton Baines from Wigan, the left back offers more going forward than defending, but he is a terrific prospect and if he can settle in will be a great addition to the squad. If he can push on at the Blues he may well cement a place in the England squad, surely a motive for his move.

We still could do with adding a creative midfielder and a striker before the window closes however, to offer a sustained push on four fronts this year.

If these are not able to purchased so late in the day, this will provide great options for our younger players such as James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe to push on. Both played a far whack last season and will be asked to play more again this, and Moyes will hope the ‘V-Squad’ will be able to aid Johnson with our goalscoring options.

I’m going to place a hesitant prediction on our final placing this year, as i hope to progress in the cups. These predictions are considering Moyes adds a couple more faces to the squad before the end of the window.

My predictions:
League: 7th
UEFA cup: 1/4 finals
FA cup: 1/4 finals
League cup: Semi Finals
