According to Simon Jones for Mail Online, Marcel Brands is ‘working on a deal to sell’ Cuco Martina this month. Everton’s Director of Football wants to raise funds towards new signings before the transfer window shuts, so a number of outcasts could finally be on their way out of Goodison Park.

Martina has been walking the plank for some time. The £35k-per-week defender hasn’t made an appearance for Everton since their 2-1 defeat to Burnley (March 3, 2018) and would have been offloaded last summer had he not picked up a training ground injury.

Martina is behind Djibril Sidibe & Seamus Coleman in the pecking order, has been demoted to the reserves this season and is out of contract in July, so his time on Merseyside is up. Whether Everton can find a suitor for him this month remains to be seen, however.

The 30-year-old’s lack of football and expiring contract has considerably lowered his value, so Everton may have to accept any offer just to remove him from the wage bill. The Blues signed him on a free transfer in 2017 and may be letting him go in the same fashion three years later.
