Report: Everton youngster to sign new deal, will spend the season out on loan

|

According to Phil Kirkbride and Sam Carroll of Liverpool Echo, Lewis Gibson will sign a new deal at Everton before being loaned out for the rest of the season. There’s interest from clubs in the Championship, League One and Europe, but it remains to be seen where he’ll go.

The 19-year-old is knocking on the door of the first-team, having made the matchday squad on one occasion this season, but he’s yet to make his senior debut. Everton are short on centre-backs, having only Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate at their disposal, so Gibson is effectively fourth-choice in the pecking order.

The England u20 international joined Everton from Newcastle in 2017 and has gone on to make 38 appearances for the u23s, scoring and creating three goals. Gibson helped the Young Toffees win the Premier League 2 title in 2018/19, and looks to have a bright future.

His progression at youth level has been rewarded in the form of a new deal, and the next step for Gibson will be to force his way into the first-team. If he can impress on loan, he may give Carlo Ancelotti food for thought.
