Opinion: Winger won’t join Everton in January

|

Everton have been linked with a move for Yannick Carrasco this month, but it’s hard to see the 26-year-old coming to Goodison Park before the transfer window closes as he may have his sights set higher than the Toffees.

The Toffees need a prolific wide-man, as Bernard (15 Premier League appearances, two goals, two assists), Alex Iwobi (16 PL appearances, one goal) and Theo Walcott (17 PL appearances, one assist) haven’t set the place alight this season, but Carrasco would be an ambitious signing. Carlo Ancelotti won’t want to be overstocked in one position without letting a player leave either.

The Belgian international has scored and created 41 goals in 52 games for Dalian Professional. Before he moved to the Chinese Super League, Carrasco contributed 44 goals in 103 games for AS Monaco (2010 – 2015) and 40 goals in 124 games for Atletico Madrid (2015 – 2018).

He’s played at the top level in Europe, so Everton may not be considered as a good career move – Carrasco’s agent reportedly offered the winger to AC Milan. The £175k-per-week man would also cost £9m-a-year in wages which may put Everton off. Carrasco would improve the squad, but it’s hard to see him making the switch.
