A few Everton fans have been reacting on social media after Carlo Ancelotti stated the importance of learning about the character of his players.

Ancelotti has been at the Goodison Park helm for little more than a month now, a period in which he has called on 19 different players to feature in at least one fixture across all competitions.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Mason Holgate, Jordan Pickford, Djibril Sidibe, Theo Walcott, Yerry Mina, Fabian Delph and Seamus Coleman have each featured the most under Ancelotti, with seven outings respectively to date.

A packed festive fixture list gave Ancelotti little time to learn more about the players on a personal level, but an 11-day gap between facing Newcastle United and Watford due to our early FA Cup exit has given the 60-year-old that welcome chance.

“Learning about the players’ character is the most important part of my job – you need to have different relationships, considering the character of the people,” Ancelotti told EvertonTV.

“I want to have an open relationship with the players, I don’t want to be above them or below them. I would like to have a relationship at the same level, so I have no problem to manage these kinds of things.

“I have experience and know everyone has different characters and you have to build relationships considering this.”

Ancelotti claiming that learning about the players’ character is the most important part of his job has not sat well with all of the Goodison Park faithful, with some fans reacting by suggesting the Italian’s comments are “just words”.

Others have looked positively on Ancelotti wanting to learn more about what makes each player tick, as mutual respect is important.
