Report: Everton to ‘hold contract talks’ with 22-year-old

|

According to Phil Kirkbride of the Liverpool Echo, Everton are planning to offer Dominic Calvert-Lewin a new contract amid interest from Manchester United. The 22-year-old has been in fantastic form this season and could be rewarded with a five-year deal to stay at Goodison Park.

Should Everton sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin for £50m?

Yes

No

Calvert-Lewin has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 10 goals. The England u21 international boasts five goals in his last five league games and is Everton’s top scorer (8). He’s the 12th highest scorer in the league and has contributed 35% of Everton’s total.

Calvert-Lewin’s contract doesn’t expire until 2023, but this new deal is likely to get a payrise in line with Cenk Tosun and Moise Kean now that he’s Everton’s first-choice striker. He’ll also need an incentive to turn down a potentially lucrative move to United.

The centre-forward currently earns £20k-per-week at Everton, less than Tom Davies (£25k-per-week) and Mason Holgate (£25k-per-week). Tosun earns £60k-per-week while Kean takes home £53k-per-week, so Calvert-Lewin should be doubling his wage at the bare minimum.

It remains to be seen when pen will be put to paper over an extension, but talks will take place soon.
