Report: Everton may have to pay £10m and £0.87m wages to sign defender

According to Graeme Bryce of The Sun, Everton are interested in Andre Almeida and could battle Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City, Southampton and Brighton & Hove Albion for his signature.

The 28-year-old has scored and created 40 goals in 250 appearances in all competitions for Benfica since joining on a free transfer from Belenenses SAD in 2011. He’s been a regular at right-back, featuring in 53 games across the board this season but could be on the move this summer.

The Sun say Almeida has a £10m asking price while Sports Maza believe he earns around £0.87m-a-year/£16.7k-per-week at the Estádio Sport Lisboa e Benfica. The Portuguese international has scored two goals and made 12 assists in 33 Primeira Liga games in 2018/19 and would provide competition for Seamus Coleman in the Everton first-team.

Jonjooe Kenny is expected to leave Everton in the coming weeks so Marco Silva will need another right-back in the squad. Almeida is affordable and won’t have wage demands that break the bank, but the stiff competition from four other clubs could be a stumbling block.

Almeida has won five Primeira Liga titles, four Taça da Ligas, two Taça de Portugals and one Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira in his eight years at the club.
