Explained: Everton make offer for £53k-per-week man, club want to sell, player keen to stay

Despite Seamus Coleman being first-choice at right-back, Everton continue to be linked with potential replacements this summer. The Toffees are reportedly interested in Benfica’s Andre Almeida and made an offer for Paris Saint-Germain’s Thomas Meunier earlier this month.

According to GFFN, Everton made a provisional contract offer to the Belgian international but haven’t made a formal bid. The Toffees are keen to sign Meunier, but the player appears to be keen to stay at the Parc des Princes. PSG, however, want to sell the 27-year-old so his future in the French capital is uncertain.

Meunier reportedly earns £53k-per-week at PSG and has a market value between £13m and £31m according to CIES and Transfemarkt. PSG paid around £5m for the defender back in Club Brugge in 2016, but his contract expiring in 12 months will drive down his asking price.

When fit, Meunier is a regular at right-back for the Parisians. He made 30 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating 12 goals. In Ligue 1, the defender created 18 chances and whipped in 48 crosses with 21% accuracy. He would improve the Everton squad, but Meunier’s desire to stay at PSG may be a stumbling block.
