Report: Everton join race for £10m-rated English defender being chased by PL rivals

|

Everton have joined a whole host of Premier League sides for the signing of Preston North End defender Ben Davies.

As reported by Lancashire Live, the Toffees, as well as Wolves, Brighton and Newcastle United, are all interested in the signature of the Championship defender, who Preston value at £10m following their strong start to the season.

The Lilywhites currently sit in third in the Championship table after 11 games, and as numbers from Transfermarkt show, Davies has been an influential reason for this early season success as the 24-year-old defender has played every minute of league football so far.

Indeed, his form early on in the campaign is the reason as to why Everton and a whole host of Premier League clubs are eyeing up Davies as a potential January signing.

And the Toffees could benefit from an extra central defender following their calamitous start to life in the Premier League eight games in that currently sees Everton sit in the relegation zone heading into the international break.

With Yerry Mina and Michael Keane underperforming so far, a swoop for a defender impressing in England could be a good move for Everton, who have kept just two clean sheets in the Premier League with both of them coming in the opening two games of the season.

Indeed, a solid defender for £10m is a steal in this era of football, and with Everton being just one of four Premier League clubs eyeing up the same player, there is a good reason as to why so many teams want Davies on their books in the not-so-distant future.

Everton faces competition for the signing of Davies, and if the defender’s form continues as the season progresses, it won’t be long until the list of suitors for the Preston defender expands beyond the four clubs.
