Everton must look at past failures before making a decision on underperforming key man – Opinion

The glass has been broken, the big red button has been pressed, and loud, screeching alarms are going off everywhere. Everton are officially in crisis mode.

A 1-0 defeat away at Turf Mood saw Everton make it four league defeats in a row, ensuring the Merseyside club sit in the Premier League relegation zone heading into the second international break of the season.

A summer of promise where the Toffees made some exceptional signings has quickly faded away with this dreadful run of form, and Everton fans are calling for one thing only, the sacking of Marco Silva.

The Portuguese manager is in real danger of becoming the second Premier League boss to face the chop this season, and with reports from 90 Min claiming that the likes of Erik ten Hag are being eyed up as a replacement for the Everton man, Silva’ s time in the north of England could be about to come to an end.

Indeed, a name like Ten Hag is one that is bound to get fans excited. After all, who wouldn’t want the man that took the Dutch giants to the Champions League semi-finals as well as a domestic double overseeing a club like Everton, who they themselves have plenty of talented youth players and the elements needed to genuinely shake up the status quo in the Premier League?

With the likes of Laurent Blanc also being linked to the job as reported by Football Insider, it appears Everton are aiming to go big on whoever comes in next if Silva is to be sacked, yet the Toffees backroom staff need to ensure, more than anything, that they are bringing in the right man for the job.

There was once a time when Silva was seen as an ambitious appointment for Everton, as were the likes of Roberto Martinez and Ronald Koeman, and although these managers had some good times at the club, they all ultimately left with their heads down and jeered off by fans.

Everton have the facilities, the talent and the finances to be an appealing project for many managers, but they must think logically as to who they should bring in next, and most importantly, learn from their previous failures.
