Report: Everton linked with out-of-favour AC Milan defender

|

Despite having Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines at left-back, Everton are being linked with a move for Ricardo Rodriguez. Digne has been the subject of interest from Olympique Lyonnais while Baines is out of contract in 2020, so the Toffees might be offsetting any potential loss by pursuing the AC Milan defender.

Rodriguez has spent more than two years at the San Siro since leaving Vfl Wolfsburg, making 92 appearances in all competitions. The 27-year-old has been a regular in Italy, but his form this season has left a lot to be desired. He made four Serie A appearances before being dropped and has been stuck on the bench for three weeks.

The Swiss international, who has represented his country on 67 occasions, started in Milan’s 1-0 defeat to Udinese (August 25), 1-0 win over Brescia (August 31), 1-0 win over Hellas Verona (September 15) and 2-0 defeat to Inter Milan (September 21).

However, he’s since been an unused substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Torino (September 26), 3-1 defeat to Fiorentina (September 29) and 2-1 win over Genoa (October 5), and may be considering his future as a result. Everton are reportedly looking to take advantage, but Blick have failed to give a definitive reason why the Blues are so keen on the out-of-form left-back.

With Baines and Djibril Sidibe able to provide cover for Digne this season, Marco Silva may not need another defender just yet.
