Report: Everton highlight possible Marco Silva replacement

|

The Everton hierarchy has listed Mikel Arteta as a possible replacement for Marco Silva, according to Duncan Castles.

On Monday afternoon, it was revealed by the sports journalist, Castles, that the 37-year-old was being lined up as a possible replacement for Silva.

The former Toffees midfielder spent six and a half seasons with the Merseyside club and could be set to be reunited with the Goodison Park faithful (via Daily Record).

Big-name competition

Should the deal be set out on the table for the Spaniard to join the club as manager, they may be set to face some big-name competition to secure his services.

According to reports, Manchester City and Pep Guardiola will not stand in the way of Arteta leaving, but that has been touted following reported interest from another of his former clubs, Arsenal (via The Mirror).

The initial report suggested that, with Unai Emery struggling for results at the Emirates, the former midfielder may be in line to step into the top job.

VF Tactics – Could he be the man to turn Everton’s fortunes?

Should the Toffees be able to tempt the Spaniard away from the Etihad, to make his first foray into football management (per Transfermarkt), it is unclear if he could be the man to turn the club’s fortunes.

It is without a doubt, the 37-year-old will have had the best possible footballing pedigree by teaming up with the footballing genius that is Pep Guardiola (via Sky Sports).

So, should some of the tactical intelligence and infinite intricacies that have made Manchester City back-to-back Premier League champions (per The Mirror) rubbed off, he could be exactly what Everton need.

Regardless of the link, Everton still have their Portuguese manager, Silva, at the helm – but if results do not turn around soon he will be on thin ice at Goodison Park (per The Telegraph).
