Report: Another ‘fantastic’ youngster could leave Everton ‘on loan’ in January

|

According to Adam Jones & Sam Carroll of the Liverpool Echo, Morgan Feeney could leave Everton ‘on loan’ in January. Lewis Gibson could be temporarily moved on to get first-team football, and Feeney may be in line for similar treatment.

The 20-year-old captains the u23s and has been a regular this season. As per Transfermarkt, Feeney has made 11 appearances in all competitions, nine of which have come in the Premier League 2. He was part of the reserve team that won last season’s title, but Everton’s youngsters are struggling this time round.

The ‘fantastic’ centre-back had boasted a seven-game unbeaten run in the reserve league before suffering consecutive defeats to Derby and Liverpool. Everton now find themselves sitting sixth in the table with 13 points from nine games.

Feeney finds himself fifth in the centre-back pecking order, behind Yerry Mina, Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Gibson. He’s made 64 appearances for the u23s and will benefit from facing more experienced players in a competitive league. Everton risk stalling his development if he stays in the reserves.

Is Everton loaning out Morgan Feeney in January the right move?

Yes

No

Reserve team manager David Unsworth praised Feeney highly and says it’s down to Marcel Brands & Marco Silva to decide what the best option is. He told Liverpool Echo: “I have to say they have both been fantastic for me. They are both great players at this level and both leaders.

“They are both terrific lads and I have all the time in the world for them. Whatever happens in January with both of them, I don’t know. That’s up to Marco and Marcel. That’s not my decision. That would be Marcel’s decision. But if any manager phones me they’ll only hear good things.”
