Report: Everton expected to come up short with €15m bid for 96 mins-per-goal striker

|

Everton are reportedly interested in River Plate striker Rafael Santos Borre.

That’s according to Fox Sports, as cited by Comu Tricolor and Publimetro, who claim we have lodged a €15million (£12.8m) offer for the Colombian forward.

Borre’s future has been widely speculated upon following his efforts in the Copa Libertadores Final defeat to Flamengo at the weekend, with Antena 2’s Carlos Antonio Velez claiming that a range of offers from €12m (£10.2m) to €15m have been lodged.

River Plate need of raise funds in the upcoming transfer market due to their current economic situation, and will sell Borre if a suitable offer comes their way, despite the 24-year-old wanting to stay in Argentina.

There is no guarantee that our bid, if true, will be accepted though, as Velez noted in the broadcast of his ‘Words Major’ program that Borre has a €30m (£25.6m) release clause in his contract.

River Plate are also expected to hold out on deciding Borre’s future until after the Copa Argentina Final on Friday, December 13, where they are set to face Central Cordoba at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas.

For now, Marcelo Gallardo’s Los Millonarios are not even recognising the offers they have received for Borre, and Toda Pasion believe a bid of more than €15m will be needed if we are to land his services in January.

Borre has featured in 11 of River Plate’s 13 Superliga matches thus far this season, starting nine, and has scored seven goals.

His haul of strikes features braces against Racing Club and Club Atletico Patronato, plus the winning efforts in 2-1 victories over Colon Athletic Club and Aldosivi Athletic Club.

The two-time Colombia international, who moved to River Plate from Atletico Madrid in 2017, is currently averaging a Superliga goal every 96 minutes, and is contracted to Los Millonarios until June 2021.

He also scored three times in the Copa Libertadores this season, including the opening goal in the Final against Flamengo.
