“Going into the unknown ” – Lots of Everton fans reject club’s rumoured favoured Silva successor

|

Lots of Everton fans have been reacting on social media to reports by Diario de Noticias, claiming that Flamengo boss Jorge Jesus is considered as the favoured option to succeed Marco Silva.

It is alleged that club executives have reached out to businessman Pini Zahavi to discuss Jesus moving to Goodison Park, as he has served as the 65-year-old’s intermediary since February.

Jesus is seen as the favoured option by parts of the board should we relieve Silva of his duties, who is expected to remain in charge for Saturday’s trip to Leicester City as there is division among club leaders over whether he should be fired or not.

However, Jesus is currently more inclined to remain at the Rio de Janerio outfit than seek a move away, and would only leave Flamengo after December’s Club World Cup in Qatar, having secured the Brazilian side’s spot at the tournament by winning the Copa Libertadores at the weekend when his side beat River Plate.

Both Jesus and Flamengo identified the tournament as one of their great goals for the year, and are due to face the winner of the match between Al Hilal from Saudi Arabia and Tunisia’s Esperance on December 17, before potentially playing in the Final on December 21.

Would you take Silva until December and hire Jesus?

Yes, bring Jesus in!

No, we can't wait that long

No, stick with Silva

Jesus only joined Flamengo in January of this year, where his contract at the Estadio da Gavea runs until next June, and contains a break clause that will allow him to leave in December without the need to pay any compensation.

Negotiations between Everton chiefs and Zahavi are understood to be underway, although Jesus would want to move to a club where he could compete for titles if he were to leave Flamengo.

The Telegraph have supported Diario de Noticias’ claim that Jesus is a possible candidate to replace Silva.

Jesus won three Liga NOS titles, five League Cups and a Portuguese Super Cup with SL Benfica during his time in charge of the Portuguese side, along with a League Cup with Sporting CP.

He took charge of Sporting just a day after Silva was actually fired by the Jose Alvalade Stadium natives in 2015.

Jesus held a 2.27 points-per-game average over his 321 games with Benfica, and took 2.07 ppg with Sporting over his 158 games with the Leoes.

Some Everton fans, though, would oppose the 65-year-old arriving at Goodison Park as the successor to Silva…
