“Joke from top to bottom”, “Just liquidate” – So many Everton fans react to official club update

|

Lots of Everton fans have been reacting on social media in response to an official club post, sharing that the Under 23s had lost 4-0 in the Leasing.com Trophy to Fleetwood Town and are out of the competition.

David Unsworth’s squad got off to an appalling start when Danny Andrew gave the visiting Fleetwood side the lead after on six minutes, as he ran in to meet a floating corner with his left-boot and struck past Harry Tyrer’s outstretched left arm.

Anthony Gordon had a few chances to pull us back level against the League One side, but Unsworth was left unhappy on the touchline as the opportunities went begging and basic errors crept into our play.

His evening got worse when Lewis Gibson went down and required treatment before Beni Baningime fell awkwardly when chasing the ball following a late challenge from Ched Evans.

The junior Toffees squad managed to keep the scoreline respectable for most of the game, but goals in the 76th, 80th and 87th-minutes put the tie to bed and knocked us out of the cup.

Board member Sasha Ryanzantsev and first-team coaches Duncan Ferguson, Hugo Oliveira and Luis Boa Morte were in attendance for the fixture, which included a 29-year-old, 2020-free agent Oumar Niasse leading our attack.

Should Unsworth's job also be up for debate?

Yes

No

Some fans have been replying to the club’s update announcing the full-time score by reflecting on how the first-team faired at the weekend against Norwich City, with shouts for Marco Silva to be fired.

Reports have suggested that Silva will be given this weekend’s trip to Leicester City, as members of the board are split over what the best course of action is after defeat to the Canaries left us 16th in the table.
